Once again, Citi Handlowy team takes part in the IRONMAN Poland events in Warsaw, Gdynia and Poznan. This year, employees of Citi in Poland, institutional clients and Paralympic champions compete in the 5150 relay races in an extraordinary line-up. Together, they take up the challenge to achieve sports success at the finish line and thus, to enable children and young people with disabilities to discover the joy and passion that comes from practicing sport. Thanks to their joint efforts, throughout the year, several dozen children from all over Poland will be able to take up a discipline of their choice in sports sections and participate in training camps with specialized staff and facilities.

Together with our clients and partners, we are adding new chapters to the 40-year history of triathlon in Poland. Achieving the intended goal, in business as well as in a triathlon relay, depends on the cooperation of the entire team and is based on trust, says Maciej Kropidłowski, Vice-President of Citi Handlowy, who supports the Live Well at Citi initiatives and participates in the IRONMAN relay at the bike leg.

Citi Handlowy is a partner of the IRONMAN Poland for the seventh year in a row. Year by year, the bank contributes to the growing interest in this sport, getting involved in each edition not only as a sponsor, but also as an active participant. In 2018 in Warsaw, the Citi Handlowy team was represented by 12 relay teams, and this year there were over 30 relay teams and over 100 athletes! Every year, the Citi Handlowy team’s competing translates into financial support of those for whom sport is often just a dream.

The team representing the bank this year is unusual. Citi Handlowy employees and clients are joined by titled para-athletes - multi-medalists of the European Championships, the World Championships and the Paralympic Games. In Warsaw, the team in blue outfits was represented by: the President of the Polish Paralympic Committee Łukasz Szeliga, Paralympian Wojtek Makowski - silver medalist of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in swimming, and Polish champion in paratriathlon Natasza Jaworska. In Gdynia, Witold Skupień, a Paralympian, multi-medalist of the World Championships in cross-country ski and the World Champion in the 18 km classic technique race, joins the relay at the bike leg.

Citi Handlowy is constantly engaged in activities conducive to building a more inclusive society. In cooperation with the Polish Paralympic Committee and para-athletes, the bank strives toward social activation of people with disabilities. Thanks to the “BądźAktywny” (“Be Active”) project, children and young people with disabilities from all over Poland will be able to participate throughout the year in training and sports camps. They will discover the benefits of sport under the care of specially trained, certified coaching staff and assistants.

For years, together with the Polish Paralympic Committee, we have been working towards a more inclusive, open society, and together we are changing the perception of disability. We hope that our efforts along the race course will help many young people discover the joy and passion of sport, says Olek Łakomski, Citi Handlowy’s Markets Sales Director, triathlete and member of the Citi Handlowy team.
